Modal ANSWER:

Stakeholders-

  1. District Magistrate (You)
  2. Influential person
  3. Political executives
  4. Environmentalists
  5. Local People

Situation:

Due to one developmental project which has political backing, environmentalists are protesting against the project.

Ethical Dilemma:

Compromising situation between lives and livelihood.

Steps to be taken by me as a District Magistrate:

  1. I will form a committee which will include local leader, prominent environmentalist and retired judge of the National Green Tribunal and Myself and will ensure to develop a report within 1 month after studying the feasibility.
  2. I will call on the Gram Sabha and will discuss the recommendation of the report with the local population to ensure participative democracy
  3. I will discuss the recommendation of the committee with my immediate boss and political executives.

I will do the Environment Impact Assessment after following the guidelines given under UNEP which is backed by Environment Protection Act 1986 and will forward the report to my superiors and will act accordingly.
