Context-

Recently Six elephants have been lost in Odisha within two weeks following the death of one more jumbo in the Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary. Investigation results show it was case of Haemorrhagic Septicaemia 

( Bacterial disease- affects cattle high mortality rate)

About Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary-

  • This Sanctuary is located in the Kalahandi district of Odisha. 
  • In 1969 this sanctuary was firstly notified by the conservator of Forest and then it was formally notified under the wildlife protection act of 1972 in 1992

Fauna-

  • It is home to a plethora of wildlife animals and birds such as Leopard, Gaur, Sambar, Nilgai, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Soft claws Ottawa a wide variety of Birds and Animals.

Flora-

It lies within Eastern Highlands Moist deciduous forest ecoregion.
