QUAD and BRICS : India’s partnership shows its strategic Autonomy

Context :

Recently India has participated in the meeting of QUAD held in Tokyo . Simultaneously , India appreciated the expansion of the BRICS .In first organization India is participating to counter China in the Indo pacific region and in second organization, India is participating to counter the monopoly of the capitalist countries .

Introduction :

  • BRICS and QUAD are two multinational forums. BRICS (Brazil, Russia , India and China, South Africa )
  • BRICS Plus is a new phase in the expansion of BRICS. Brics is an organization for mutual political support . Russia and China are its members. QUAD is an organization against Chinese aggression in the Pacific . Se. In behavior and nature both the organization of mutually opponents. But the surprising thing is that India is a member of both the organizations. This fulfills the basic principle of NAM (Equidistance from both the poles ) as well as the sovereignty of India’s foreign policy

What is BRICS and QUAD

  • In St. Petersburg, Russia, The  leaders of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) countries met on the margins of the G8 Outreach Summit in July 2006. Shortly afterwards, in September 2006, the group was formalized as BRIC during the 1st BRIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. Political and security, economical and financial cultural and people to people exchanges are the three pillars of the BRICS
  • China is appealing to other developing countries to join this organization. India is also appreciating the expansion of the BRICS. The expansion of the BRICS is being analyzed in the matter of Russia Ukraine Dispute . Through this Russia’s favor would be more strong
  • The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, colloquially the Quad, is a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan, and the United States. Recently .QUAD was formed to counter Chinese aggression in the pacific region . But, in fact this is for economic cooperation . One of the primary objectives of the Quad is to work for a free, open, prosperous and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. Since its establishment in 2007, the representatives for the four-member nations have met periodically. The idea of the QUAD was given by the Japanese prime minister Sinzo Abe

India’s role in both organizations and its implications

  • After the Ukrainian crisis , western countries imposed many economic sanctions and brought many proposals against Russia and they expected that India would also impose some sanctions. But India remained neutral. However , America pressured India . This shows the Independent nature of India’s foreign policy whose foundation was laid in 1950 .
  • India is facing the border dispute with China and Pakistan, Therefore India’s foreign policy would be in the line agent China Pakistan Alliances . India would always try to isolate Pakistan from China. Against China, India maintains good relations with the capital countries. And since India is the emerging market and the emerging economy of the world so no countries of the world can ignore the significance of India
  • In fact, India’s party participation in the Tokyo summit and agreement to join IPEF demonstrated commitment to strengthening its strategic partnerships to counter Chinese dominance .At the same time, India has agreed to the expansion of BRICS membership. India is now emerging as world’s important country which has extreme independence foreign policy without any biases

Conclusion

As per the above discussion , it can be concluded that , nowadays , India has evolved as a leading country of the world after the Russia Ukraine crisis where India had shown its independent foreign policy . Next year , 2023, India will host the meeting of G20 and in 2024, India will preside over the QUAD . The coming years would ensure the increasing role of India in world politics .
