E-VSP Portal Launched: Digital Access to Hindi Legal Literature

Relevance for UPSC & State PCS: Polity & Governance

Union Law Minister Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal launched the e-VSP portal of Vidhi Sahitya Prakashan on July 15, 2026, in New Delhi, marking a significant step towards expanding digital access to legal knowledge. This portal aims to make important decisions of the Supreme Court and High Courts, legal journals, reference books, and other law-related literature available online in Hindi. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of Digital India, emphasizing the need for legal language to be easily understandable by common people, thereby making the legal system more accessible and inclusive. Shri Meghwal also stressed the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage and civilizational values, noting that legal literature reflects the nation’s constitutional conduct, cultural traditions, and collective wisdom.

The e-VSP portal, hosted on www.vsp.gov.in, has been developed to provide seamless digital access to Vidhi Sahitya Prakashan’s journals and other reference materials. This platform will enable law students, teachers, advocates, members of the judiciary, researchers, and other stakeholders in the legal fraternity to easily access and download legal journals and other reference materials from a single digital platform. Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Department of Law, highlighted that this portal is a crucial tool for enhancing the availability of legal resources in Hindi.

The launch of the e-VSP portal offers five significant benefits, as discussed by Dr. Manoj Kumar, Additional Secretary of the Legislative Department. These include expanding the geographical reach of Hindi legal publications, facilitating the discovery and availability of legal knowledge, connecting Hindi legal publications with a new generation of readers, empowering Hindi as a language for legal understanding and professional communication, and creating a comprehensive ecosystem for the development of Hindi legal publications. This initiative is expected to make publications easier to find, understand, obtain, and use, fostering a more robust and accessible legal discourse in Hindi.
