Context

Researcher at Sweden University of Gothenburg found that fear is related to Thwaites  melting are worse than previously thought owing to supply  of warm water flowing underneath at a rate of underestimated in the past

 key points

• The Gothenburg study used  and an uncrewed submarine To go under the Thwaites glaciers Front to make observation submersible called Ran  measured among other things the strength temperature salinity and oxygen content of the ocean currents that go under the Glacier
• Using Sonar on the ship nested with very high-resolution Ocean mapping from ran researcher found that there are distinct parts that water takes in and out of the ice shelf cavity Influenced by the Geometry of the ocean floor
•  These were the first measurements ever performed beneath Thwaites glacier.
• Using the results the researchers have been able to map the ocean currents that flow below Thwaites floating part.
