Latest UPSC Exam Eligibility 2023 

According to the latest update on UPSC exam eligibility criteria, these are the criteria. Let us discuss them below:

Nationality

  • If the person is applying for the IAS and IPS post, it is mandatory that the candidate should be Indian.
  • There is relaxation when the candidate is applying for other positions apart from the above two. But the conditions are:-
  1. Must be a citizen of India/
  2. A citizen of Nepal/
  3. A citizen of Bhutan/
  4. The person can also apply if he/she is a Tibetan refugee with a proof to show that the immigration was before 1st Jan 1962.
  5. Furthermore, an Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan/ Burma/ Sri Lanka/ and East African countries.

Note: Candidates with criteria of 2,3 & 4 will not be eligible for the post of IFS. i.e. Indian Foreign Service.

Age 

  • The candidate must be of at least 21 years of age and a maximum of 32 years.
  • There is relaxation on age on the following factors:
  1. If the candidate belongs to ST (scheduled tribe) or SC (scheduled caste) the age limit is relaxed for upto 5 years.
  2. If the candidate belongs to an OBC (other backward classes) the age is relaxed for 3 years.
  3. Candidates who are a domicile of Jammu and Kashmir from 1st January 1980 to 31st December 1989 will get age relaxation for 5 years.
  4. If the candidate has been disabled in service in the case of Defense Services, the personnel is eligible for age relaxation of 3 years.
  5. For ex-servicemen and commissioned officers (ECOs/SSCOs) there is age relaxation of 5 years.

 

Educational Qualification

  • The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree from a reputed university that is recognized by the Indian Government.
  • Candidates who are from Technical / MBBS background – For technical candidates, you are eligible for this examination provided you have studied from college by the Indian govt. For MBBS students if you have passed the final examination of your MBBS course or any other medical course but have yet to complete your internship, you will be provisionally allowed to appear for the UPSC Mains exams if you submit a copy of the certificate from your university/institute that you have passed your final medical exam with your application. 

 

Attempt

UPSC CSE eligibility states that candidates on a normal scenario are allowed a total of 6 attempts unless they belong to the ST/ST/OBC or other eligible categories. This will help you understand better-

 

  • General – 6 attempts
  • OBC- 9 attempts 
  • SC/ST – Till the maximum age limit is achieved for the exam..
  • Physical Disability (General) – 9 attempts
  • (ST/SC) – Till they reach their maximum age limit for the exam.
