The IES is one of the prestigious examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission in India. It is considered among the toughest exams conducted across the nation, but it attracts a lot of candidates each year. The competition is so aggressive, and less than 0.30% of candidates are able to get into the position of an officer in the IES. Indian Economic Service Eligibility Educational qualification

Post-graduation in Economics or Econometrics from any recognized university or institution is the qualification required to appear for the IES examination. Candidates need to fall within the age bracket of 21 to 30 years of age to be eligible to sit in this examination. However, there is an age relaxation for SC/ST and OBC candidates. The candidates also need to be Indian citizens by birth. Students who are in the final year of their postgraduate degree in Economics or Econometrics are also eligible to take the test.

The minimum age required for the IES exam is 21 years.
The maximum age for candidates in different categories is mentioned below

3. Other Backward Class (OBC) – 33 years
4. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) – 35 years
5. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) – 40 years

Nationality

The nationality eligibility is mentioned below:

Citizen of India.
Subject of Nepal/ Bhutan.
Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 to settle in India permanently.
Indian origin person from – Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries to settle in India permanently.

Indian Economic Service ( IES) Exam Pattern

IES consists of two broad stages: one is the Written Examination and the other is the Personality Test (Interview). The Written Examination comprises six papers, which is a combination of objective-cum-descriptive type questions, for a total of 1000 marks. Candidates qualifying in this stage are subsequently called for a Personality Test, worth 200 marks, which examines a candidate’s overall suitability for the post.

Interview

Interview is also known as Personality Test, being the last step in the Indian Economic Service IES examination, is linked with an assessment regarding personality, leadership qualities, and suitability of the candidates for the post. The interview would, therefore, be absolutely different from the earlier stages that were based on academic knowledge and technical expertise since this interview is designed to assess personal attributes related to composure, confidence, and interpersonal skills. Although some academic questions may be expected, the interview essentially seeks to understand the character and potential that the candidate will bring as a future IES officer.
