Context-
India ranks 139 out of 149 countries in the world happiness report 2021, it was released by the United Nations sustainable development solutions network.
Key highlights-
neighboring countries performance:
- Pakistan ranked 105th
- China ranked 84th
- Sri Lanka ranked 129th
- Bangladesh ranked 101
India’s performance with other countries:
- The other Nations that rank below India are Burundi, Yaman, Tanzania, Malawi, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
- India is a new entrant to the bottom 15 group from the last three years
- India previously ranked at 144 out of 156 countries in the 2020 report and in 2019 India was ranked 140
Top performers-
- Finland is ranked as the world happiness nation for the fourth consecutive year
- Nordic nation is followed by Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, Netherland, Sweden, Germany and Norway
- The United States ranks at 19th place for happiness despite being one of the richest countries in the world
Worst performers-
- Afghanistan is on the bottom of the list of affected by violent conflict and extreme poverty followed by Zimbabwe
World Happiness Report-
The survey used the Gallup World Poll that asked people to vote on three indicators
- Life evaluation- the respondents rate there life on a ladder with step numbers from 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top
- Positive Emotions- People respond in binary on three majors happiness, laugh and enjoyment
- negative emotions- conducted on three measures of very sadness and anger
