Context:

Recently The World Meteorological Organisation released the “State of the Global Climate 2020” report.

Key Findings-

  • 2011-2020 was recorded as the warmest decade.
  • The Cyclone Amphan is recorded as the costliest tropical cyclone in the North Indian Ocean.
  • The Cyclone has made landfall in May 2020 near the India-Bangladesh border.
  • The economic losses in India due to the cyclone is approximately 14 billion USD.
  • In this decade India had one of its two wettest monsoon seasons since 1994.
  • The average rainfall between June and September was recorded 9% above the long-term average monsoon of India
