03 Mar IRAN-US Nuclear Deal (International Relation, The Hindu, GS-2)
On July 14, 2015, Iran and the six powers that had negotiated with Tehran about its nuclear program since 2006 (the us , the uk , France, Russia, China, and Germany—collectively referred to as the P5+1) finalized a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Why this deal is significant
- It stops the nuclear weapon programme of Iran, thereby creating peace in the middle east.
- It lifts the sanction on Iran thereby improving the trade and selling the oil.
- It also assures nuclear reactors will be under the IAEA i.e. atom of peace.
The USA under Donald Trump went out of this deal on the pretext that it didn’t cover the Iran missile programme.
Biden in his election manifesto clearly stated about the restoration of the deal, and accordingly he appointed a special envoy to iran and some sanctions on the saudi arabia.
But this is not enough: Iran will have presidential election in June, there is a possibility that hardliner will come to power if this deal is not reinstated again.
